Video Conferencing

What is video conferencing? Video conferencing is a technology that allows you to both see and hear the other party you are connected to.

Video conferencing allows you to create private video chat room for a private meeting. Video conferencing facilitates face-to-face collaboration among companies located in different cities or countries, and within any organization with more than one location. Computerized real-world images, such as video and audio links provided between people at different locations, provide contextual background for communication. This is particularly important when a high degree of ‘presence’ is required, for example when people are engaged in problem-solving tasks.

Video conferencing can happen by using a program like Skype, using a video phone and video calling service or thorough a whole room video conferencing system. This make video conferencing accessible to just about anyone. (Skype is actually free)

Before you experience video conferencing you should make certain of a few things. First you want to make sure you have the internal resources to deploy and manage video conferencing. It’s not difficult, but if you don’t have someone in house you will need a reseller/consultant to assist.

Secondly you will want to make sure you have enough bandwidth to accommodate video conferencing. Ensuring you have enough bandwidth will eliminate any issues with video delivery.

Thirdly you will want to work with your staff to ensure that you are selecting the right video conferencing equipment for their needs. Since there are a variety video conferencing options available to you, doing a user needs assessment will ensure you don’t make any buying mistakes.

Video conferencing is a great technology. Don’t be scared by it. Check it out!
